Prior to February of 2018, we had featured precisely zero heavily customized 1960s Thunderbirds. That changed on February 9, when we published the Big Block Shorty, and now we have a 1961 T-Bird made into a pickup.
As with the shorty, this is an unfinished project in some ways, but it does seem to be more complete. The interior is in the most need here and anyone nit-picky will want to tidy up the engine compartment. Oh, and the b-pillar metal is not attached. Still, this one seems to run and drive and it sounds like brakes, fuel system and exhaust have been freshened.

From the side, this looks like a two-door sedan until you notice the Vespa in the back.
Obviously, paint wouldn’t be a bad idea to help match things up.
This is something of a money shot.
Here’s a view of the bed – note the hump. Supposedly, there’s storage under there and attached to the “cab”.
The seller puts it nicely and refers to the interior as a “blank canvas!”
390 shows recent attention on top of years of neglect, which makes for an interesting combination.

I’ve reluctantly decided to part with my Thunderbird Pickup.
I first encountered this in the Spokane Valley in 1980 ,it was beautiful in its’ original Turquoise. I tried to buy it then, but it wasn’t for sale.
I was able to find it again about 6 years ago, and began work on making it my daily driver.
Please notice the pictures that show the thin “B” post. That is how the roof is. The extra roof skin with the T Bird sail panel is just sitting loose on top. It is not attached but it is included.
Starts runs and drives good. No smoke, weird smells or noises. No noticeable leaks.
Changed to a new dual circuit master cylinder with new booster. All wheel cylinders are new, bearings re packed, etc.
New Edelbrock 4 barrel, new fuel pump. The gas tank has been removed and thoroughly cleaned in my shop, and reinstalled.
New distributor, plugs, wires, etc.
All fluids changed.
Exhaust is new from manifold gaskets, to tailpipe. Manifolds were surfaced.
Starter is new, grinds occasionally.
I removed filler from roof, tailgate area etc. Underlying work is mostly nice. A friend did the tailgate, the work is excellent.
I intended to reconfigure the “B” post with the T Bird roof skin shown. It is completely unattached, but is included.
Nice custom tonneau has no hardware, I repaired a couple of cracks, but it is really well made.
There is some rust on the inner rear fenders, at the back (where the opening was modified) . There was some light rust and a few small holes on the floors, which have been treated and POR 15 ed.
Interior is pretty much a blank canvas. Seats need re upholstery. Driver’s seat is power. No door panels. Nice storage area behind seats, extends under bed. No rot problems there, some surface rust.
Vespa IS NOT INCLUDED!
