1973 Pangra (eh?)

Here’s a classic “never heard of it” Oddimobile!  Apparently, a Ford dealer once decided that a performance Pinto was a good idea; so a new front end – complete with pop-up headlamps – turbo kit and interior bits were pulled together and the Pangra was born!

Hemmings has featured a Pangra, so there is a bit of info out there, but it’s not clear how many cars were made.  50 seems to be a popular interwebs number.

What you get is a turbocharged version of factory 2.0-liter four cylinder good for 175HP.  Not bad in a lightweight little car.  Our feature car has many a mod, so HP should be even higher.  Fortunately, brake and suspension updates have been done in order to keep up…

Value here is anyone’s guess, but $6,100 is already pulling away from factory Pinto pricing.

Front end is completely different and very cool.

Upsized rubber was probably needed with all the upgrades, and the Torque-thrust wheels are period correct, but they’re too big for this car.

Recaro seats were part of the original Pangra mod package.

Pangras also had unique center consoles and instruments.  This car’s instruments have been updates since.

Here’s a hand-made plaque.  Jack Stratton was the guy at Huntington Ford, in Arcadia, CA, who came up with this car.

It’s too bad we can’t see the original mods here, but the upgrades mean that this thing puts out even more power.
