The 1987 Nissan Mega Max appears to be a regional special edition consisting of ground effects, exhaust tips, wheels and a badge.
Here’s the Southern CA dealer association video for this “special edition”:

Aesthetically, this car is in poor condition, but the seller claims it passed smog recently; so it may be good mechanically. We know of know reason to think the 180K mile VG30E shouldn’t keep on truckin’ with proper care. 160HP doesn’t sound like much today; but it was quite competitive in its day and paved the way for the much-loved 1992+ VE30DE, which put out 190HP and made that Maxima a true Taurus SHO competitor (which was a GOOD thing then) at teh time.
This car clearly needs body and paint. As the seller states, it needs a good “fiberglass guy” to address multiple body kit issues. We assume Nissan’s Compton PDC doesn’t have Mega Max body kits lying around; but who knows?
Is this worth saving? Maybe if mechanical condition is confirmed as very good and it can be had for under $1,000. It will certainly make for an interesting conversation piece.

Selling my 1987 Nissan Mega Max. This is a very rare car that was only sold for a couple of years as a sportier Maxima. It has the factory tail, skirts and ground effects, needs a good fiberglass guy though. Runs great, passes smog, drives like a go-cart. Just started popping out of fifth. Otherwise it is, what it is. If you are looking for a cheap car, dont call me. If your looking for a Mega Max, I may have one for you.
