Here we have an ill-timed product of the last time Japan had major currency concerns. As with so many others, this was done by ASC in the US. Interestingly, this was credited as the first retractable hardtop since the Ford Fairline Skyliner of the late 50s, given that it preceded the Mercedes SLK.
Due to a price premium of $20,000 vs. the expensive hatchback 3000GT, not many of these were made nor sold. The 3000GT held out longer than the Supra, 300ZX and RX-7, all of which were effectively priced out of the market.
Memories of that time frame help to explain why Japanese central bankers are actively devaluing their own currency at this very moment. The long-term effects will be interesting…

THIS IS A 2 OWNER VEHICLE (including me, I purchased this vehicle from the original owner). This clean Spyder is a rare and clean classic car. The vehicle was painted professionally approximately 5 years ago. A custom carbon fiber header panel was professionally fabricated and looks extraordinary. Approximately 90 days ago the struts, the battery and the belts were replaced. The replaced struts are the OEM adjustable struts. The full 60,000 service has been completed including the timing belt, water pump and everything else on that large service. I’m not going to go into a great deal of detail about the history general history of this rare car because this data is readily available on line. The vehicle is equipped with drilled slotted rotors installed. The original rotors are included with the sale. All car owner manuals included with the car. The stock stereo is included with the car. I have new Spyder floor mats, still in the wrapper to be included with the sale.
This is an awesome reliable vehicle and all maintenance was done ahead of schedule. You don’t need to do anything, just drive and enjoy. This car is a jewel that is ready for summer fun.
The negatives
The auto dimming feature on the rear view mirror doesn’t work
The plastic clip that the right visor clips into is broken (doesn’t make a difference, the visor is still fully functional)
Small scratch on the left lower ground effects behind the rear wheel
The shift boot leather is peeling (it’s an easy fix if it bothers you)
