Best of the Breed: 1971 2002tii Touring

The BMW 2002 is known as one of the best handling, most fun to drive cars.  This is the “Touring” hatchback version that was never sold in the US and, being a hatchback, adds practicality.

Being a “tii”, this has the top, fuel injected engine.  Tail light snobs will also like the round units on this early car.  This one has been upgraded with a five-speed transmission, which is a good call, and the seller claims the wheels are upgrades, though they fit right in.  The car appears to be in great condition, overall.

The seller is asking $35K for the buy-it-now price, but the starting price of $5K is low enough that we’ll hear the market speak.

The front looks like any other 2002, but this shot gives away some of the difference in the rear. This car appears to be in great shape.

Not only does this add hatchback utility, it’s the best looking among the breed.

Interior is as cool and functional as any other 2002 – that’s a very good thing!  This one looks like it’s in perfect shape.

Engine compartment on this example appears very clean.

This 1971 BMW 2000tii Touring is a good looking and mechanically sorted example benefiting from NO RUST ANYWHERE, an E21 5-speed upgrade, and desirable, factory-correct Colorado Orange paint. Only 3 owners, car was originally sold new in France as demonstrated by amber section taillights, cosmetics are solid driver quality, and the car should make it across the USA without issue. Resprayed a few years back, paint still shines nicely and matches the original finish under the hood, in door jambs, and around the hatch opening very well. Being a Euro model it benefits from no DOT side markers and no bumper guards. It has period correct FPS Turbo wheels with new rubber. Minor flaws- the driver’s door jamb shows a few dings, the same side’s rear fender has a paint crack near the wheel arch, and the nose wears some stone chips. The French market, amber upper section taillights are an interesting feature, and all trim including brightwork, rubber and badging is in very good condition. The cabin is all-original and is holding up very well, the only noticeable flaw is a dash crack near the instrument binnacle. The Petri steering wheel is cool. Carpets and door trim remain in very good shape, and headliner, dome light, and often damaged C-pillar trim show equally well. All gauges, lights and switches work as designed, and the windows roll smoothly and the folding rear seats and wide-opening hatch make for a large, easily accessible cargo area.  Has correct OEM Kugelfischer mechanical fuel injection. It runs and drives very well, and is a fast, capable cruiser. Shocks are Bilsteins at all four corners, and the added 5th gear makes for a nice revs drop on the freeway!  For further info, I can be reached at 310-xxx-xxxx or through ebay. Inspections are encouraged and welcomed. I can assist with arranging delivery to your door but buyer pays all shipping costs.  International buyers welcome. Thanks!
