Any Citroen is quite a sight, but this adds the strangeness (for the US market) of right-hand drive!
The seller recently imported this car from the UK and claims it is registered in Oregon. Given it is from the 1974 model year, one might even be able to register this in California! Don’t get too excited about the “GS Club” name, this is not like a Porsche Club Sport. Club was the entry-level trim.
This car has a 1.1 liter, flat four-cylinder engine driving the front wheels through a four-speed transmission. The ad claims everything works and that the car’s biggest issue is paint and minor rust. The photos back that up, as not all panels match and the rust is visible.
If the price doesn’t go up too much, this might be a viable project. Too much higher and you’ll need to be a body/paint guy to make financial sense of this one.

Not an everyday sight in the US…ever.
Profile is unlike any other vehicle.
Rear 3/4 view is arguably the strangest as far as the exterior is concerned. The lift at the rear wheel is unique.
Did the rear end inspire the later Daewoo/Pontiac LeMans? We love the really long tail pipe.
Because a Citroen in the US isn’t weird enough, why not have yours in right-hand drive? Note the classic one-spoke steering wheel!
Some upholstery work may be in order. Accordion boot is a nice touch.
Typical for Citroen, there’s a front-mounted engine with a spare mounted above it. Also typical for Citroen, this drives the front wheels and the hydraulic system.

For those of you who are curious, yes, this is a Citroen ‘With Hydraulics’ — In addition to going forward and backwards pretty darn well, it goes UP AND DOWN, too! Yes, it has a hand-crank and so you can start the engine by hand if the starter motor quits. Most of the pictures here were taken with the suspension in a raised setting. I have many more pictures available as well as a video of the car running , you must message me, visit my site or call me to receive them.
This GS looks very nice, and it is only upon close inspection that any cosmetic problems become present. Very little rust, and that that is present is superficial.
This car is in excellent mechanical condition and ready to use as a daily driver now. Starts right up every time, engine sounds great, pulls strong, shifts well and clutch has great bite. Brakes are strong and feel perfect. No funny noises, and no leaks from anywhere. Glass is all good. Heater blower motors work well, and all keys are present.
This is a very nice original car with low miles (83,960 – will go up as I use almost every day) – Needs some cosmetic work, mainly has poor paint, and there is some minor rust in the doors and seat covers are torn. Mechanically great. Please read entire ad for all information.
This car is for sale locally for around $4900 – If you would like to make an offer on this car, you must call me to discuss. If you have questions, please call me at 503-810-4713. I may not be able to return emails, and would prefer to speak on the telephone.
I import unusual European vehicles as the daily work of my business. I bought this 1974 Citroen GS about 9 months ago in England. I have since imported it, and now have it here WITH CLEAR OREGON TITLE IN HAND. Ready to go to new owner now!
For those of you who do not know, this is a very rare car here in the US and never officially imported here. It has a front-mounted flat-4 cylinder air-cooled 1120cc engine. Car has 4 wheel disc brakes, the front pair mounted inboard off of the transmission. Car is very roomy inside for being medium/ small. Trunk is HUGE and opening into it is very large – rear bumper lifts up with trunk lid for easy access. Car is right hand drive – is easy to get used to, if it bothers you I have a very nice LHD version coming in soon for $11,500. I have included a photo of this car for you to see here , too, this is the green car, last one of my photos here.
Hydraulic suspension rises quickly and has no problems. 4-speed manual transmission shifts great. All lights work. Has a tow hitch. Headliner in excellent condition. Tires look to be almost new. Clutch feels great. Dash has no cracks.
Heater works amazingly great for an air-cooled car. Very comfortable and the active suspension absorbs bumps like you would not believe.
The big problem with this car is the paint. As you can see it does not match on all panels. I think an attempt was made to paint the car to hide some damage in the doors, and now the paint is not all consistent. There is some minor rust in the front doors, in the bottom rear corner mainly. The car suffered a dent to the drivers side rear door during transport across the ocean – In short, the car will need a paint job and some rust repair to be perfect again. SEATS have cloth covers, which are torn in several places. Seat covers are available, and I do have a fitted set of grey ones that will be installed on the car when it is sold. Originals are available at several sites online.
Radio is present, but not hooked up (or working)
On the POSITIVE side, car has a new alternator, all instruments work properly, glass is all good, door panels, carpet and headliner all look great and dash is perfect with no cracks. All lights work. engine starts right up, runs strong, and does not leak. No smoke. No funny noises. No leaks anywhere. Car is still running original green fluid-LHM. Suspension works perfectly, and powered brakes pull the car up to a stop easily and without hassle or issues.
I would not hesitate to jump in this car right now and drive anywhere.
