Yes, somewhere in or near Tucson is a mural featuring an Isuzu Vehicross and a customized 1970 Mustang! Also, this ad serves as a classic example of the shameless use of a girlfriend or daughter in ad.
Presumably, no males will complain about the shameless part of this ad and I also assume all Oddimotive readers love the mural as much as we do. We must find this place!!!
The car in question is a 1972 240Z with automatic trans – truly unfortunate! The car is rough, but almost complete. The seller claims 95% rust-free and must use a calculation that ignores surface rust (fairly typical). Some rust-through is visible on the rockers, but the car does seem to have solid floor pans, spare tire well and battery tray area – all rare on any non-restored Z. You’ll note that the fuel tank is missing, but it is apparently included in the sale. The engine cranks, but won’t start.
At the current $500 price, this is a worthwhile project, but it will go upside-down anywhere near $5,000 unless the buyer can handle body and paint at home, as well as major mechanical items.

Is there a car in this pic?
Here’s the profile AND the mural! Non-matching wheels can be sorted easily. Non-matching rocker paint often indicates rust repairs (or ongoing issues).
Is there a car in this pic?Tail light panel is missing, but can be sourced.
Let’s have a look inside.
The Arizona sun has taken its toll on the interior.
This appears to be mostly surface rust. The seller gets points for jacking the car up for pics.
More surface rust on the other side, but I’d watch the front of the floor pan where it curves up to the firewall.
This is a claimed matching-numbers engine and it does appear to be ‘all there’, minus a battery.

NO RESERVE !!!!!!!!!
DONT BE AN IDIOT AND ONLY BID IF YOU ARE LEGIT
5 feedback or less bidders need to contact me or I will
cancel your bid, period. This isnt a game, this is how some people
make a living.
IF you are in the market for one of the hottest imports cars currently
sought after for a project car, look no more.
Although this car has sat for many yrs here in the AZ desert, its body
is about the most rust free desert find we have come across in a few yrs.
95% Rust Free Body / frame and floors , add to that I cannot see any
signs of previous body damage on the whole car except for a small spot
on the front hood, and that too is very minor.
Add to that this being somewhat of a rare 240z, with an automatic trans
and matching #s original engine. Built 1/72 this car also has alot of the
rare parts such as early emblems and override front bar and more.
Brief history of the car: Original color combo was one of the coolest to
come out of Japan, silver with maroon interior.
The current white paint is horrible, old and looks like it was done with
a spray can to be honest. But under that is a very solid unmolested body.
The lower rockers, doglegs, frame areas, trunk panel are extremely solid
and the desert has been very good to the factory sheetmetal. Plenty of
pics to show you what we mean. Over the yrs some silly wiring repairs
etc where done under the dash and about 20 yrs ago the car lost spark.
Since then it just sat next to a house in the AZ sun till we received it last
week. Its been clean up and we can get the motor to crank, but still
no spark at the points. May just need a new distributer, to get running,
not 100% sure. But once running, the motor should be fine.
Clear AZ title in hand of course.
The full interior will need restoring, but at least it looks like its still
very complete, so that would make doing the job easier.
Many people are doing motor swaps in these cars and I can see the fun
in that, but this car almost deserves to be restored back to stock as
Im finding less of these cars on the road and original anymore.
But at least you know with this car, you wont be chasing down rust issues
for weeks on end. Body shops love charging you for fixing rust.
Interiors and paint and still less costly to do.
DRIVETRAIN: under the hood is the original matching #s motor
2.4L straight six (is missing the air cleaner now) but the rest of it
All seems there. It cranks when we jump the starter, but not with
the key. And still no spark. Not sure why. Im sure youll want to at
least fix that, then rebuild the carbs and see how well it runs before
you just pull the motor, Unless you are doing a full restoration then
of course just rebuild it all. Trans and rearend should be fine.
It did see for 20+ yrs. Also it does come with the fuel tank, not shown
in pics.
INTERIOR: this is where AZ heat etc did most of the damage. The
interior is baked and its going to need just about everything. The good
thing is most of the core stuff is there and usable. The car at one time
did have dealer or factory installed AC. The original panel and switch
for it are still under the dash. Rest of it all seems to be gone.
Solid floors and trunk from front to back, no rust we can find at all.
Both front door windows dont want to roll up or down that easily if at
all, but the glass is good. Regulators could be bad. All the important
switches and factory gauges seem to be ok still. Another rare option
For this car is a factory AM/FM radio ! Pass door only opens from the
inside handle. Does have an slightly odd car smell, which wont matter
if you plan on restoring it. Just gut the interior and start fresh and
it would be the best way to redo it.
Exterior: the paint is garbage, but the body is really in decent shape.
No huge dents, no signs of any major body repair. 1 small repair on the
front center hood area. Sand it all down to the original Silver and start
fresh, and you would have a great body for a driver or full on resto with
less work then some rusty 240s out there people are offering for sale.
Even the chrome on the bumpers and how straight
the bumpers are is really amazing. Az cars are like time capsules 🙂
Chrome on the bumpers is decent too and original .
It has a few dents and stuff on the car, but honestly, Id get the mechanics
done first, and interior , and take it from there.
Saw no rust on the floors, front hood area, hatch area or dr side dogleg..
The pass side dog leg in front of the RR wheel has very minor rust, and I had to
really scrape away paint to find it, but a super easy repair.
SUSPENSION: the suspension looks to be pretty much bone stock
Im sure some stuff is worn out but get it running and driving and start
replacing what you need. These suspensions are easy to work on and not
all the expensive to rebuild either if you need to.
Car also has PDB up front as well. Wheels and tires are all old and mismatched.
Nothing you would want to keep. But the car rolls and steers fine.
This car is 90% rust free Arizona car
