Faux-ieros: Wanna-be Italians based on Pontiacs

These days, it seems that most Fieros are wearing costumes, usually mimicking Italian exotica.  Here we have two such beasts, one immitating a Lamborghini Countach and one a Ferrari F355 spyder.

The Fauxrrari is obviously finished to a greater extent, but does the Lambfauxghini have the same potential?  These cars are for two very different buyers.  Poseur #1 wants to personalize and enjoy the build, while poseur #2 wants to start posing as soon as the check is written (or bounces?).  The problem is that, despite the looks, the Fauxrrari is not yet a runner and the seller isn’t sure why.  That’s a bit scary.

The Lambfaux seller includes an astonishing number of parts, and it could be that a real Countach buyer gets this for this items and sells off the Fiero and plastic body.  The Fauxrrari seller claims new Sony speakers as one of the high points for the car, so that’s frightening.

Since I was young, I dreamed of owning a Lamborghini Countach.  I finally realized that dream, many years ago…sort of.

I purchased this half-built kit car and started the process of creating my own supercar.

Along the way I met a whole new family of passionate friends that shared the same dreams, met countless people who just wanted to learn more, or just be close to such an exotic machine.

I recently re-located my home and businesses to Los Angeles and as part of that move, my most painful loss is the fact that I need to now part with my car. I simply do not have a location to store and work on it now, and so I must sell it to someone else who can finish it and drive it. This has been a gut-wrenching decision, but hopefully this will create an opportunity for someone else to take on this project and continue the adventure!

This is a Pontiac Fiero-based non-stretch chassis with an IFG Koenig Countach body.  It still has the stock engine and drive train. It has no crazy engine modifications to make getting it running well a big problem.  I have completely re-built the suspension system with Pro-Thane urethane bushings and and after an alignment and tighten-up will be a real smooth-mover! It has not been driven or ran for many years, so it will require a thorough mechanical inspection and cleanup before driving. I did drive it myself when I first purchased the car, then I started the process of re-building it. I had plans of pulling the engine and upgrading the engine to a v-8 which has been done many times to cars like this, but I never got that far.

When I embarked on this project I decided that I wanted the experience of driving this car to be as accurate and realistic as possible of that of a real Lamborghini Countach. So the process of completely gutting the interior began. I created custom interior panels, dash board and other components to resemble the actual Lambo interior.  I then started a several-year process of sourcing all-authentic Lamborghini interior parts for the the switches, indicators, selectors and other components that would create a great driving environment and convince any passer-by that this was a true super car.  I work in the movie and TV industry, so I figured it should work as a picture car as well, so accuracy was important. I painstakingly re-wired the Pontiac wiring system to work with the Lamborghini switches and it’s trademark pushbutton switches! No easy task, let me tell you!

I spent many years and many thousand dollars finding original replacement parts for the car. I have amassed an incredible collection of exceptionally rare original Lamborghini parts that I am selling ALONG WITH this car. See this PAGE for a partial listing of everything included.

This is virtually a turn-key project car that has almost everything that you need to complete the vehicle.

The car has not been driven for many years and will require a basic service and mechanical check out prior to being driven. The wheels are in prefect shape, the tires are original Pirelli P-7s (exceptionally rare!) and as such are older, but have plenty of tread, though they’ll likely need replacement before they get any real mileage.

NOTE: This car has a CA DMV Specially Constructed Vehicle number designation which is a highly sought after designation that should allow it to be registered by its body or engine year and thus allow smog check exemption. It has not been registered since 2002 (I believe) so buyer will be responsible for all registration fees and costs associated with the title.

I am selling the vehicle, all the Lambo OEM original parts, several custom made replica parts. Every single piece and element that I purchased, built and traded for to create this car is being sold along with it. Everything, including seals, battery, filters, wires, switches and the list goes on and on. Click here for details

Arrangements can be made to view this car in Santa Maria, CA 93455 with prior notice. I do not live in Santa Maria so I have to arrange travel to meet you, so only serious buyers please.

Upon purchasing the car, you will need to schedule a flatbed tow truck or car hauler to move it, as it does not run on its own at this time.  I will require a $2,000 deposit upon agreement to purchase. I will end all ads, auction and promotion of the sale of this vehicle at that time and no sooner.  I am selling it as-is with no warranty expressed, no returns or refunds. Please understand what you are purchasing. It has much work to be done to get in running and looking like the true beauty she is inside. If you know about these project, you understand the work that goes into them, and you will also understand the incredible value for the amount of material that you will receive along with this car. Parting out all the original Lamborghini OEM parts and replicas might even be enough to cover the entire selling price! Many of these items are exceptionally rare and took me YEARS to source.

In addition to the vehicle this sale comes with an outstanding collection of authentic, replica and custom made Lamborghini parts, accessories, emblems, decals and other items that will transform your experience of owning this car!

This is a well done Ferrari replica project. The body is fiberglass and looks just like the real one. It has a few scratches The chassis is a 1985 Pontiac Fiero. The car has been in storage for years. Title is from state of Washington, then sold by CA dealer in 2004 with receipt. The car will start up and run but not very well. It idles, but stumbles on take off. Headlights and turn signals work, tach and speedo do not. This is NOT a car you can drive home. The additional work that I know it needs: The exhaust is too close to the trunk and the carpet lining gets very hot after driving it a few miles. The coolant should be flushed. (looks brown). The radio stopped working. The Good: New seat covers with new Sony built in speakers. New front brakes/rotors. The looks from other people is simply amazing! Here are a

I personally love the look of the original Fiero so much, that I wouldn't dare tamper with it. (not crazy about the Fiero GT fastbacks though) As much as I love Lambo's, all I would mod on the Fiero body would be Lambo-style doors. Never was crazy about convertibles, Ferrari or otherwise. The Fiero would be cool converted to a cabriolet, but again, with minimal tampering to the body style. The Fiero is an unrecognized American classic! Why make it into a poor imitation of something else? Let it shine for what it is. Maybe an elctric conversion would be cool, now that Alcan has successfully tested their aluminum-air long-range battery. Make it a Fiero on the outside, but a Tesla on the inside!
