Marauder has meant different things over time at Mercury, but it has always been associated with performance, whether a whole car or an engine name. For 1969 and 1970, it stood alone as its own model and meant full-size personal luxury with the X100 version sitting on top and offering the biggest engines available. The top engine was the 429 with 360 HP and 480 lb-ft of torque and that’s what available for sale here.
As Hemmings pointed out an article on one of these, this boat won’t beat a smaller, big-block muscle car down a drag strip, but it is certainly something different and a 15-second quarter mile time is nothing to sneeze at with this much mass.
This example appears to be in amazing shape, though the seller does little to explain whether it’s been restored or is a preserved original. There is one reference to this having been a really good car ‘to start with’, so it sounds like work was done. This is a quite a rare, powerful car for the asking price. If it was a mid-size Ford with the same engine, the asking price would likely be much more!

Front end has some Cadillac in it, and is just plain menacing.
Yep, that’s one massive two-door.
Blacked out trunk was standard, but deletable.
Late 60 luxury, baby! Shifter looks pretty darn cool here and at least this boat has a floor shifter.
Here’s the business end of this one. If we bought this, we very quickly source the correct air cleaner decal to regain proper street cred at Cars and Coffee.

This is a very rare Mercury Marauder X-100 Muscle Car with the 429 cubic inch engine at 360 hp. This 429 engine was basically the same as the very rare Cobra Jet Mustang with the 429. The car has a beautiful paint job and a unique matte black rear option. The chrome on this classic car is also beautiful. The car also has the original interior with factory bucket seats and console, which are exceptional. Under the hood and in the trunk are very impressive and show very nice. This was an extremely good original car to start with. They don’t come along any finer than this one and it runs and drives fantastic. It’s really fast! This car is a real head turner that is rarely seen! It is fit to take to the Barrett Jackson auction or high-end car shows. Call (858) 866.-4.6.61 please no texts.

Denny Fletcher & Dan Stillmu 'test drove' a '69 XL100 Marauder 429 V-8 @ 360 horsepower and AND we managed to burn an entire tank of gas in ONE night.!! The car's a "tank" but it hauls butt. I've recently bought a '73 Merc. Marquis and have built a 460 V-8 with a big cam, flat top pistons = 420 horsepower going into my Marauder 'clone': It's already painted silver, has the BOSS 429 hoodscoop (functional) LOOK OUT unsuspecting Chevvvies: I tell them it's a 351 2 bbl. LOL
