Italian Cabriolet: Lancia Beta Zagato

“Italian cabriolet” promises so much, but it’s a bit of a let-down to find out the subject car is a Lancia Beta Zagato.  This isn’t a bad car, per se; but speed and reliability are known issues and this one could be a serious project.

This is an interesting old car that might be savable, but it’s not anywhere near a $3,500 car.  That should get you a VERY nice Zagato.

$3,500 (yeah, right)

Aside from this being an old Italian car, things don’t look too bad here.

But, around back, it appears this has been stored outside with its plastic window missing.  How long?

Inside, the seat covers are nasty, but we don’t know what lies beneath.  The rest of the interior looks dirty, but complete, right down to the dash cracks.  The question is whether the seller has managed to let water pool in the floor boards and thus has a rusty desert car.

Just needs a little Armor All?

The seller claims this car runs and drives, but it shows no signs of having been used or maintained.  This looks like the desert winds have been blowing on it for some time.  Or, perhaps it was in a flood?  The straw/pine needle collection is impressive and it looks like at least one plastic reservoir has perished completely.
