We’ve featured more than one 90s Thunderbird retro-rod and recently showed a 90s Camaro-based 57 Chevy wannabe. Finally, we have a Mopar example, this one based on, of all things, a Dodge 600 convertible, which may well be the boxiest of K-cars, possibly of all cars.
Of all the weirdo retro-rods we’ve features, this one hides its roots the best, but that’s like because it is a convertible and there’s only a A-pillar to give it away, vs. the always-hard-to-hide full roofline and set of pillars. It’s also harder to determine what this car wants to be. Is it a Dodge Corvette?

Elvis has been found! Oh, wait, it’s LA – no explanation required.
As usual, the interior looks bone stock in its 80s K-car-ness.
There’s that beauty of a four cylinder. Sorry, it’s not a turbo.

This car started out in life as a 1985 Dodge 600 K Car Convertible. Somewhere along the way it had a fiberglass kit body attached. Whoever did this knew what they were doing as it fits quite well. The doors are electric and open with little buttons under the outside rearview mirrors.
Here is what I have done to the car since I’ve had it. I’ve invested over 12k restoring it. New seats, carpet, door panels, new dash, NOS Steering wheel from a 1983. New speakers all the way around including new CD Player and AM/FM Stereo. New radiator, power steering pump. New AC Air Conditioning Compressor and associated parts, new heater core. New brakes and tires all around. New alternator, starter, New gas tank. New power window plastic channeling and felt around doors, new rubber. New door latches. All gauges work and so so the wipers, the heater will bake bread.
All lights outside and inside work great. Hood and trunk open with screws. The car is rattle free and quite smooth and quiet for a custom fiberglass body. The power top works great. The top is also new with a glass rear window.
YOU WILL NEVER SEE ANOTHER ONE OF THESE. I have never seen one and this might be the only one ever made. AC blows cold. No rust, had one small hole prof repaired due to water sitting in trunk floor not due to road rot.
It has the NON-Turbo 2.2 chrysler 4 cylinder engine which gets 28 mpg highway about 22 around town and with a 12 gallon tank is CHEAP to fill up.
With this car you have a retro vintage look with modern fuel economy. IT IS THE FUEL INJECTED engine and no carb. Front disc brakes stops on a dime.
You won’t win any drag races with a 4 cylinder but the way this car looks who cares? It is an antique and a rare piece and should be treated as such.
I’ve had people almost run off the road staring and gawking at this car. It looks like a cross between a late 50s to early 60s Corvette and the rear end of a Shelby Cobra. It is quite unusual. Please ask questions if you want to know anything. The car is ready to go and needs nothing.
