We’ve commented many times recently that microcars have been hot, especially since the Bruce Weiner auction in 2013. BMW Isettas, once only curiosities, and generally available for $20K or less in any condition, suddenly can bring more than twice that in perfect condition. So, why does this Isetta have a buy-it-now price of $2,850?
Well, because it’s been hacked to pieces and cobbled back together.
The seller stretched this little guy to accept a Kawasaki motorcycle engine. Remember, that four-cylinder replaced a single-piston engine in this car, so a bike engine was a significant upgrade. This is an incomplete project looking for just the right person to finish it. Even at $2,850, one probably couldn’t restore this to original condition and make money, and I don’t think anyone should. At this point, this deserves to be finished and to be driven to find out whether it was worth the seller’s significant effort.

When I found this add, this is what I saw. On a quick glance, I just though someone had poor taste in color.
But, a quick look at the other images revealed something odd and disturbing.
It might be even weirder from this angle. Is that the exhaust in the middle – painted? Does a stock Isetta top fit on this thing? Also, note the ‘interesting’ project in the background.
This is the only interior shot available. It needs finishing, to say the least.
Yep, that’s a small four cylinder. When up and running this might be scary to drive. Then again, the rear track on this is wider than stock.
Here one more shot of dat ass. Note the Vespa 400 in the background! On some level, I want to visit this place.

1957 BMW Isetta 300 Micro Car Project
This is a rare convertible Isetta that was cut and stretched to accommodate a Kawasaki 4 cylinder bike motor. Very presentable but not show quality. The motor runs with gas poured in the fuel line. What you see is what you get this car will need finishing but it is a very cool custom micro car that would be great for advertising among other things. This definitely gets a lot of looks.
I’ve replaced the front tires so those are new, the master is new along with other brake components but it has been sitting for a few years. Both the rear top and sunroof are new. I do not have a title for this but it will be sold with a bill of sale. Vin tag is included.

One response to “Lowest-Value Isetta Currently Available?”
Not to pick nits, but the car in the background is an Autobianchi, not a Vespa 400. Very easy to get them mixed up though!
Also, the original Isetta engine was just a modified BMW bike engine anyway! So I guess that makes this a resto-mod?
