Everyone knows the Mustang II was a product of trying times. The enthusiast appeal, admittedly waning since the Mustang got a bit porky in 1971 and then the big block went away in 1972 and all engines got weezier, was completely sucked out at the Mustang II launch. Yes, the car was based on the Pinto. Contrary to popular belief today, the car was an initial sales success, but most of the competition was similarly dumbed down, so that only means so much.
Yes, the Mach 1 continued into the Mustang II generation; but, sadly, was initially offered only with a 2.8L V6 putting out 105HP. By 1975, the 302 V8 would return, but only with a rated 140HP. Gone were the days of the Mach 1 with 351-4V or 428 Cobra Jet engines, but the later 302 must have had more low-end torque than the V6.
In summary, the Mustang II Mach 1 was a performance step up from four-cylinder Mustangs and offered a nicer interior and reasonably subtle exterior badges. If you must have one and can’t find a V8, this one at least has a clutch pedal and full suite of gauges, including a tach. Then again, rust is starting to set in, so what’s this worth to you? Oh, by the way, it’s a non-runner.

If the rust around the window isn’t yet all the way through the metal, it had better be saved quickly.
This was very much ‘deluxe’ in ’74 and reminds me of my ’70 Mustang in color and faux woodgrain-ness. Hand brake would have been a welcome touch in earlier Mustangs!

I loved the design of these if they had made a convertible in this body style I'd be driving a restored one today. Perfect size even the new ones (2015) are bloated and ugly and suck gas. The V6 engines in this era were actually great motors. Build quality was good too better than the Fox body which came later.
