Are you an MG fan? An EV fan? Oh, you’re both? We have the car for you!
This MG Midget has been converted to electric and it appears to be a quality job. We particularly like the charge port integration, though a little paint would make it even better. The gauge integration is pretty cool, too, but the best feature is the retained four-speed!

01/04/2014 update: Ended at $2,050 with 14 bids and reserve not met. Relisted and still up with bidding at $1,625 and reserve not met.
This one’s the right color combo. We’re not sure what to think of the painted rockers, though…
Electric badge is a nice touch. Charge port is the gray think on the right – would look great painted!
Interior appears to be nice all around.
What, Smith’s didn’t have EV gauges to match perfectly?!
Here are the front batteries and motor.
And…four more batteries in the boot.

Here’s an unusual one you don’t see often! A 1978 MG Midget Electric Conversion. Recently donated to a local charity, this home built conversion is remarkably well done and is in very nice condition.
The car itself was restored during the conversion and sports fairly new paint. Not really a high dollar mirror finish, but up to the quality of a 1970’s MG. All trim and even the rubber bumbers look great, but the top has a quarter window that is torn. (see photo)
Inside, the seats and carpet look great and the dashboard has added volt and amp gauges to keep an eye on electric output. The driver’s door can be difficult to open from inside, and the passenger door just doesn’t seem to want to open.
Mechanically it drives very well, and accelerates quickly but tops out at around 50MPH. There are 4 gel cel batteries in the front, and another 4 in the trunk so it is nicely balanced. It still uses the original 4 speed transmission which unfortunately has a noisy throwout bearing. The range has been reported at 25 miles when driven conservatively, and comes down from there the more agressively you drive.
Titled as an electric vehicle so it is smog exempt. Comes with a car cover as well as the original spare. (it’s up to you to find a place to keep it)
A fun car for a short commute or running errands. Guaranteed to turn a lot of heads while you glide silently by.
