No, this one doesn’t necessarily have bad rings, this one is an oil-burner in the sense that it’s diesel-equipped. Here in California, that means no smog testing ever, although it also means this accelerates like a school bus. Could that be cured with a swap?
We’re big fans of the original Jetta, and this one has a lot of potential. The full blue interior looks great for its age, the engine was supposedly rebuilt recently and the apparently missing parts are included with the car. The seller points out that the paint is poor and there’s one rust spot, but those can be dealt with cheaply. After all, this will be a high-MPG cruiser and Cars and Coffee curiosity, rather than a concours trailer queen.
With smog exemption, this car would be pretty awesome with a more modern VW turbodiesel engine…hmm.
