Shorty VW Thing
Is a VW Thing too practical for you? How about a shortened one with two doors removed? Nope, VW never produced a two-door VW Thing, but a few unique individuals have decided to chop them over the years. Today’s feature is the victim of this practice.

World’s First Wankel: 1965 NSU Spider
Mazda may own the volume rotary engine production story, but NSU put them into production first. So, in a sense, Audi has rotary heritage. We’ve not heard of any plans to bring one back, however. All that said, this is a second-year NSU spider, which has a rear-engine, rear wheel drive layout and makes the…

Banquet Beer Buick
According to the seller, he or she was part of a bet involving the building of a “monster car” and a six pack of Coors (the beer good enough for a Banquet, no less). The seller got the beer and the car is featured below.

“Cut Off” 1977 VW Surf Bus
Here we have a 1977 VW Bus which has been chopped into something of an open truck. Clearly – and not shockingly – this is a surf-themed vehicle. The presence of a cage implies some level of structural rigidity, which is a welcome sight. The seller claims very few miles on a freshly built 2.0…

Pinnacle of Taste and Sophistication: Gucci Range Rover
Here we have an English truck (always a questionable choice to begin with) modified with a vinyl roof, gigantic Gucci logo and really, really ugly wheels. Needless to say, we’re not big fans of this “VIP” treatment, nor of brand whoring.

Gold Dust V8-Powered Trike
Here we have an old-school trike running a Ford 302 (4.9L) V8 and C4 three-speed automatic trans. The seller provides shockingly little info, but does point out that it has a crushed velvet interior. What else do you really need to know?

Plymouth + Jeep + Oldsmobile = Awesome Off-Road Wagon!
Here’s a fine piece of ‘Muricana for Memorial Day. What we have here is a Plymouth Valiant wagon with Barracuda bits sitting on top of a Jeep Wagoneer frame and powered by an Olds 455. Aside from the automatics trans, this is basically perfect! As a matter of fact, we’ll accept an AT on an…

SpitGlass: Custom 1967 Triumph Spitfire V8
What we have here is a period hot rod made from a Triumph Spitfire, a Chevy 327, a Corvair transaxle and a lot of fiberglass (plus bondo?). The end result is, well, unique.
