Rare and Complete with Battle Scars: Nissan Stanza 4WD Wagon

In the mid-to-late 80s, the three major Japanese automakers decided they needed small- to medium-sized wagons with 4WD, perhaps to compete with Subaru and Eagle.  Or, maybe they knew AWD was coming on the Tempo/Topaz twins and that they wouldn’t add wagon variants.  This was Nissan’s version, known as the Prairie in Japan and some other markets, but the Stanza Wagon here.

This example looks to be in good enough shape on the passenger side, but a look at the driver’s front corner reveals a significant boo-boo.  Still, were you looking to enter a concours d’elegance or were you looking for unusual, cheap transportation with street cred?  Perhaps the only thing better would be the next generation product, sold as the Nissan Axxess in the US.

Looks good here, complete with cheapo hubcaps and 4WD decal.

Oops!  The seller claims all it needs is a fender and light. We wonder about the hood and we also note the missing cheapo hubcap.  YES, these had twin sliding rear doors long before minivans figured it out.

Okay, maybe the hood isn’t TOO bad.

Twin pipes mean business!
