These don’t come up very often, as only 2,000 were built. A good friend of Oddimotive worked on this vehicle at GM back in the day and seemed to remember it fondly, for the most part.
Unfortunately, this didn’t out perform its direct competitors, the supercharged Thunderbird SC and Cougar XR7, which also offered manual transmissions not available in the Pontiac.

For a Pontiac from the late 80s, this body style has actually aged well. For some reason, its cladding is much less offensive than most. The hood vents are unique to the Turbo.
Relatively subtle theme continues rearward.
Cool, original BBS-style wheels are in place. This would have made a great stablemate to the Cherokee Limited or, for brand fanatics, the 89 Turbo Trans Am. We seem to recall that some of the Turbo bits found their way onto later upper trim levels. This wheel might have been among those (?).
One of the best features here is the steering wheel shared with certain well-equipped Bonnevilles. This must be one of the funkiest steering wheels ever made, aside from Citroen and Lagonda one-spokers. Also note the space-age compass in front of the shifter, as well as the five-band graphic equalizer.
These seats might be from the set of the original Star Trek. Note the four-seater nature of this beast, one of many things this car has in common with the E24 6-Series, which both GM and Ford tried so hard to emulate. Sadly missing are turbo logos all over the interior – clearly this was going for Germanic sport-luxury more than Japanese-inspired 80s sport.
Things don’t look all that crazy under the hood.
