In case you don’t, they looked like our subject car minus the thirty years of neglect.
Crew cab, dually trucks with massive towing capacity weren’t always the answer if you wanted to tow something and haul some people around. Back in the day, it wasn’t altogether uncommon to see these custom van/trucks with a fifth wheel for towing. The seller of this beast says he/she doesn’t have time to refurbish. I think refurbish may be putting it mildly, but it may not be all bad if it really does run. After all, is anyone really looking at this as a show car?

Form this angle, you wouldn’t think this was anything other than a dilapidated van.
Here, however, you can see the modifications.
And here, it’s painfully obvious this thing was hacked. The custom woodwork is a nice touch and, again, that wasn’t all that uncommon once upon a time.

One response to “Remember Custom Towing Vans from the 70s and 80s?”
Can anyone give me information about the following, it was from the 70's or 80's, I think, it was factory built by a major auto builder, it looked like a passenger van except that behind what was the 2nd row of seats was a about 4 foot pickup box instead of the 3rd row of seats enclosed passenger compartment, I am pretty sure that it had duels on the back axle and was made for towing camping trailers.
I also think it had large, about 4 foot tall windows on each side of the second set of seats.
I feel that it was a GMC or Chevy
