Is a VW Thing too practical for you? How about a shortened one with two doors removed? Nope, VW never produced a two-door VW Thing, but a few unique individuals have decided to chop them over the years. Today’s feature is the victim of this practice.
The seller admits this is an unfinished project, but states that most of the big stuff is done (brakes are new, wiring has been run). It needs someone to figure out the interior (to carpet or not to carpet) and to decide whether it should have a top. Right now, it doesn’t. This sounds simple, right? It could be, but we recommend approaching someone else’s abandoned project with a bit of caution.

VW thing styling is familiar, but a quick glance reveals unusual proportions and only one door on each side. Note the front lower driver’s side damage.
The profile shows the shortened nature of this little beast.
Classic Thing tail lights are present, as are obligatory twin pipes.
Interior is unfinished and we wonder about the wiring situation.
It looks like everything was welded up tight, but just needs to be trimmed out, to the extent anyone finishes a Thing. Rubber mats would be nice, though.
Frunk appears stock, as it should.
1600 engine supposedly runs great and has many new parts.

I am selling a unique VW Thing, notice something odd? you got it, there are a few doors missing, VW never made a 2 door thing, the vehicle was cut in half and rebuilt after removing one set of doors.
The motor is a 1600cc air cooled motor and runs very strong, it has a new generator, and countless new parts, this vehicle is NOT road ready and is a “Project” the body is in EXCELLENT shape except for the front in has a bit of damage but you can replace the front plate, they make aftermarket parts for this vehicle.
I find myself in a position where I just don’t have the time to finish this cool VW so I am looking for someone to adopt her and show her the love she deserves, I have new seats, but they are not mounted yet, I will mount the drivers seat so that it can be driven on to a trailer.
The vehicle has new brakes, tires and newer rims, the drive train is also new, the front left armature needs to be adjusted and the front end needs to be aligned, the electrical is run, its pretty simple to follow, I will include a service manual with the sale/
There are maybe 2 other VWs like this in our country so t is extremely unique. The doors pop off real easy, 2 seconds…. there is no roof but you can have one made, this vehicle is far from perfect if it were it would go for a pretty decent sum, if you have any questions feel free to ask!
I might be interested in a partial trade toward a 2014 Dodge Ram Van, Jeep Wrangler or a smaller crossover suv type vehicle.
