Here’s another example of wonders available in Canada but never sold here. These days, Canada pretty much rubber stamps EPA’s actions, but it seems certain models are still sold there that the US doesn’t get. Back in the day, there were whole companies selling in Canada that didn’t sell in the US. Skoda was one of them.
The upside here is this is priced for LeMons. The downsides are numerous and start with the transmission. Still, it’s very rare and was the top model of this body. The seller points out that the 1988 production date means it just might be importable to the US, where you’ll be even less likely to find parts!

Here, the car doesn’t look so bad.
Not all bad here, either. I have to wonder why the wheels described in the text are shown here and not in the photo above, however. How long ago was the previous photo taken?
Now, things are looking rough.
Yeah, it gets worse. Do you think you’ll find a Skoda with good seats in your local salvage yard?
Yep, rear-engine and it’s there. The seller warns of major transmission trouble, however.
Ad text:
For sale is a project 1989 Skoda 135Gli. This is a rear-engine Czechoslovakian car from the last days of the Communist era.
This is a VERY rare car. 181 135GLi’s were imported to Canada in 1988-89 out of rough 350 built worldwide (the rest went to Finland and Austria). Compared to the regular Skoda 120, the 135GLi features throttle body fuel injection, all aluminium engine, improved rear suspension and brakes. [ http://skodacanada.ca/SkodaInformation.html ]
The car is located in White Rock BC (on the WA/BC border near Bellingham). It was actually manufactured early in 1988, so it should now be importable to the USA.
This is a *project* car. The interior is mostly stripped (but included), the body itself is solid with only a few spots of surface rust (NO cutting/welding needed) but it does need significant mechanical work (transmission won’t stay in 5th/R, etc…)
The car sits on a set of 15″ Panasports from a Porsche 914 on nearly new rubber (maybe 3 years old with 100km on them), which are worth by themselves probably 1/2 the asking price.
This is best suited for someone who wants to restore the car, or build it into something new (rally car, dune buggy, etc…).
Please e-mail this ad with questions. Serious buyers only please. This was tentatively sold, but the deal fell through.
Thank you.
