Someone Actually Modified a Saab Sonett III!

Saab Sonetts are fairly rare to begin with, and we love the V4 engine in this one.  Rarely, though, do we see one with this level of cosmetic modification.  In profile view, it really looks good.  You’ll need to judge other angles yourself.

From some angles, this looks like an 80s or 90s custom; but the seller specifies that the rear bumper is from a 2001 to 2004 Mustang.  So, someone modded this within the last fifteen years.  We applaud the fact that someone made that decision, even if we see no need to modify the already cool and delightfully odd Sonett and even if we would have done a few things differently.

It seems that this is a stock, V4 Sonnet underneath the cosmetic mods.  We don’t know what parts are available for a V4, but would love to see what could be done to wake this up mechanically to match the looks.  As the engine used in a lot of UK-built Fords, there must be some support.

From this angle, we love this car!  It looks thoroughly modern, despite its age.

This is a pretty good angle, too, although the painted “bumperettes” are a bit much.

The front is really too modern for the car, but would probably at least look okay without the stripe.  We’d consider toning down the lights, too.

This custom design falls apart in the rear, where it just seems overdone.  Also, with such an attention grabbing style, the exhaust tip alignment really should be maintained.

Yes, the hatch offers a bit of cargo space.  Remember 6×9 speaker boxes?  We love them because they tend to mean interior panels were saved.

This makes us want Sonett seats for our cars – lateral support is evident, the structure looks light and the lumbar support is awesome!

Dash is functional and wheel is sporty enough.  We like it!

Here’s the Ford V4…a peculiar and interesting engine, if there ever was one.

why would they leave the stock motor? The car would be awesome with a bigger 200 hp motor, the original 65 hp motor and the very VERY weak trans make the car not worth it
