Sweet Swede: Volvo 122S

Here we have a Volvo Amazon two-door that appears to be a good, honest used car.  It’s not restored, but it also doesn’t appear to have major needs.  A fair amount of recent work is claimed, including a rebuilt engine.  If the B18 has been rebuilt, we wonder it is has 500K miles on it, as these last a long time.  In any case, these Amazons are beautiful, classy cars and this one wears its red with black roof well.

This isn’t the sought-after 123GT, but can be had at a much lower price and, frankly, most of the Volvo community has no problems with gauge swaps, fog lamps, etc. added to lesser cars to capture some of the looks.  That being said, this doesn’t really need anything in the looks department and we’d be more interested in some IPD suspension updates to improve the handling while maintaining the original style.  If it’s rust-free and the engine rebuild can be documented, this has deal potential.

Interior looks good enough, based on the single photo.  I would choose a black leather-wrapped wheel, but that’s just me.  The old-school, horizontal speedo is cool, as is the long shifter.  Both carried over into the early 140-series.

B18 does show some signs of work, as the head has been painted recently.  A shot of paint on the valve cover would clean things up nicely.  I painted one just like this about two years ago…
