Tasty weirdness: 1971 Siata Spring

No, really, this car is from 1971.

Siatas were always associated with Fiats.  Some were beautiful, high performance vehicles with racing heritage and now command six-figure prices.  One was even associated with Steve McQueen.  Others are Springs, like this one.  These are based on the Fiat 850, which means the engine is in the rear, and not behind that giant (well, proportionately giant) grill.  We have to assume there’s some amount of storage under the hood.  If this really is a 1971 model, it’s a continuation car, built after Siata officially went under and someone else bought the tooling and rights to the Spring.

A little Jeepster is clearly in there.

Interior is pretty cool.  Did they even come with carpets?

We dig this!

Siata Spring Roadster – An unrestored California car that has been in storage since 1978.

Just as fun and nearly as stylish as a Fiat Jolly for a tiny fraction of the price. A rare and distinctive car that provides pure driving enjoyment, and even a drive to the local grocery store will make you feel like you’re on vacation.

It has a fantastic body, which is the most solid & rust free you could ever hope to find. It also has only done 32,558 original miles since it was built nearly 43 years ago. It has been serviced mechanically, and is currently registered.

Features include:
843-cc four-cylinder, water-cooled Fiat engine, four-speed synchromesh manual transmission, convertible top & side curtains, 5 genuine Boranni wire wheels. Weight is approx. 1400 lbs, and top speed is rated at 75 mph.

These cars were produced in Turin, Italy and were derived from the rear-engine Fiat 850 platform (parts are easy to find). Production was limited to around 3,500 examples of which approximately 10-percent are said to remain today. This is a fun and unusual, easy to maintain, classic Italian roadster.

Price is $7995. Vintage car or motorcycle trades considered.
