Quite some time ago, we featured a GMC Envoy XUV as proof that not all oddities are old. Interestingly, that vehicle was a second attempt at a wagonesque vehicle with a sliding roof. Today’s feature, the Studebaker Wagonaire, was the original.
As with so many ads, the seller is selling for someone else and has little info, but it seems some funds have been dedicated to mechanical maintenance recently. The cosmetics look pretty good here, though some might want a good buff or even color sanding to bring out a little shine.
The seller claims this is the .Daytona version, and the badges support that claim. If so, this should have a higher-output engine, which could be a four-barrel 260 or 289. Either way, it would have higher output than the basic 260-2V’s 180ish horsepower.
This appears to be a great, honest and rare car with a lot of potential. Given it hasn’t run for months and isn’t starting due to a dead battery, buyers should bring a battery and plan on a thorough inspection. If this is what it appears to be, this could be great buy for an enthusiast looking for something a little different. Of course, that depends on the reserve price…

Was this also the first crossover? It’s a wagon, but the tall design blurs the line between truck and car.
From the rear, this looks like a lowered Wagoneer, which was designed by the same person.
Here’s that wacky opening – not a bad idea.
The interior has classic good looks and appears to be in great shape.
Controls are conventional and column-shifted automatic is typical for a wagon.
One could fit six in here without resorting to the cargo area where, presumably, passengers could stand while in motion.
Here’s the Studebaker V8. The seller claims this is a Daytona version, which had a four-barrel carb

Man, Studebaker really had some great cars that just never got the love they deserve. What an awesome car to take to the plant nursery or the home improvement center.
