The Legendary Citation X-11

The X-11 was the performance version of the Chevy X-11, but savvy enthusiasts know that the first-year car (1980 model year) lacked engine upgrades included on later versions.  This 1981 has the “high output V6”, which means 135 horsepower and 165 lb-ft of torque.  In this small car, that’s pretty good torque and it was definitely a lot back then.  The bad news here is this one is saddled with a three-speed automatic.

The seller claims excellent overall condition and 72K original miles – maybe because it’s not much with the automatic.  From the pictures, excellent seems like a stretch, but this looks like claimed mileage could be true and maybe the paint will buff out.  After that, the new owner should seek out a replacement decal kit.

Asking price is $7K, but the seller admits having no idea what to charge, so a deal could be had. Still, he or she may not be happy to hear offers under half the asking price, which is probably where this car should trade.  If it could be had for under $2K, it might be worth trying a manual trans swap.

$7,000 (gulp)

This X-11 seems to have lost its decals, but the alloy wheels and domed hood (with badges!) are present.

Without decals, the small spoiler is the only firm clue in this view, although that might be a twin-tip exhaust.

Yes, this is a practical toy with plenty of cargo space.  You don’t have to turn sideways to load it, however.

Here’s an up-close beauty shot.  Note the fender-to-hood gap.   That’s likely stock.

Steering wheel is sporty by early 80s standards, as is floor shift.  Note the luxurious power windows.

Interior is, well, very early 80s.  At least this has bucket seats, even if they don’t look too sporting.

This does offer a full suite of gauges, including a small tach in the wrong position.  Oh well, it’s an automatic, anyway.

It was very 80s to put something  like “Sport Suspension” on the dash.  We dig it.

We didn’t realize Citations had vertical radios and climate controls.  That seems very mid-year Vette.

Here’s a shot of the high output V6, naturally mounted sideways.
