Three-Wheeled, Leaning Scooter: Honda Gyro NN50

Honda made a whole series of three-wheeled, leaning scooters in the early- to mid-1980s, but only a few variants made it to the US and only for about three years. This NN50 is arguably the sportiest model, though it is powered by a 50cc gas engine. The idea here is you gain traction and stability from the two rear wheels, but the front leans like a normal scooter or motorcycle for proper cornering. Obviously, this idea didn’t catch on, so we imagine it was solving a non-existent problem.

Regardless of whether or not this was needed, we’re glad it exists, as it’s now a great little oddball and a cool way to get into mechanical weirdness for a low price. That being said, the seller says this one needs work and we don’t even know whether it runs. Mechanical bits should be fairly easy to fix or replace, but the broken plastic fairing worries us a bit. Still, the asking price is well below what seller want for these in great condition, so a few hundred spent fixing this should be well worth it.

Grabber blue is a nice touch on this cool, little beast. Note fairing damage, which will require a parts bike or eBay.

Here’s a good view of the two rear wheels, as well as the pivot mechanism.
