The Bradley GT was a VW-based kit car with supercar styling cues, including gullwing doors. Considering what they are, these aren’t too uncommon. This one is, however, as it features a battery electric powertrain.
This is from the end of the Bradley GTII run and supposedly is one of very few EVs. The seller is listing this on various Craigslist sites around the country, but the car is in Michigan. Also, the seller lists no price and says he will accept the highest offer received by March 1, 2014. This is a strange way to sell a vehicle…

While not the most beautiful cars, these have pretty cool styling. Whitewalls are an interesting choice.
Rear styling is a bit strange.
These interiors were always pretty cool.
Them’s a bunch of batteries.

1981 Bradley GT Type II Electric Car
Model # 15000
Serial # 02228
The Bradley GT II Electric Car was manufactured by Bradley Automotive Company based in Minneapolis Minnesota. They were manufacturing fiberglass kit cars to be bolted onto a Volkswagon Beetle Chassis using the original gasoline VW engine and drivetrain. Gary Courneya and David Bradley Fuller created the company and sold the Bradley line of kit cars from their facility in Plymouth, Minnesota.
In 1980 they decided to manufacture an all electric vehicle built on the same premise as the original Bradley but utilizing a ground up all electric powertrain.
There were only 50 of these all electric vehicle kits produced in 1980 before the company went out of business. This vehicle is one of those rare vintage automobiles.
The car features Gull wing doors, Electric Battery Operation using 8 volt deep cycle lead acid batteries and one 12 volt battery to run the normal vehicle systems. It has an on board programmable battery charger which plugs into a normal 110v outlet that will fully recharge the vehicle in 8 hours. Charging costs are approximately $2.00.
Other features include:
~50 Range with a top speed of 70MPH
Pop up headlight bays with two standard VW Beetle Headlamps
Charge meter which replaces the fuel gage
Electric motor attached to a standard VW manual Transmission with rear wheel drive.
Other dash gauges specific to electric vehicles.
Bradley kit bodies were all fiberglass, 2-seater gull-wing cars. The original gas powered GT sold over six thousand units and was largely unchanged from the late 1960’s to 1977 when the GT II was introduced.
The GT IIwas a more refined kit with more of a production quality to it.
Extensive paperwork and documentation including manuals, plans and assembly instructions will be included with the sale of this vehicle.
This is your opportunity to own a real piece of Americana.
Vehicle will be sold to individual making the highest offer received on or before March 1st, 2014.
